More Than Helping Others

What Volunteers Discover

People often begin volunteering because they want to make a difference. They leave with something they never expected.

At The Banquet, every volunteer arrives with a different story. Some come with friends, family, coworkers, or a church group. Others often walking through our doors for the very first time, unsure of what to expect. Yet time and again, they leave talking about the people they met, the conversations they shared, and how meaningful the experience became.

Serving a meal does more than fill a plate. It creates connections. Learning from one another while sharing a common purpose. A smile, a laugh in the kitchen, or a simple conversation across the serving line often becomes the moment they remember most.

Research has shown that volunteering can reduce stress, increase happiness, strengthen a sense of purpose, and even improve overall well-being. While those benefits are welcome, they are rarely the reason people return. They come back because they experienced something genuine—a community built around kindness, compassion, and serving others.

At The Banquet, volunteering isn’t simply about giving your time. It’s about discovering that when you help strengthen your community, your community has a way of strengthening you in return.
