Starting in July, click above to register your child for this opportunity. If you need assistance, call The Banquet at 605-335-7066 or dial 211 for the Helpline Center.
Children must be present and have one form of identification for the child to receive a backpack (birth certificate, social security card, school ID, library card or Medicaid card.)
If the child is NOT present, a backpack will not be given.
Volunteer for Project: SOS
Volunteer options include going to pick up supplies, packing backpacks, organizing drives and assist with various tasks during distribution days.
School Supply List

- LARGE BACKPACKS (with laptop sleeve):
- Headstart/Kindergarten: Character Bags w/laptop sleeve
- Grades 1-12: Classic laptop backpack
- Composition books (wide rule only, any solid color)
- 3 Ring Binder (2″-3″) or
- Zipper/Velcro Binder for grades 6-8
- Spiral notebooks (1 subject, wide & college-ruled, any solid color)
- Loose Leaf Filler Paper (wide & college-ruled)
- Folders (2-pocket, with or without clasp, any solid color)
- Crayola Crayons (24 count)
- Crayola Classic Wide-Tip Markers (8-10 count)
- Colored Pencils (12 count)
- No. 2 pencils (plain)
- Scissors – Pointed 5” & 7”
- Rulers w/standard and metric
- Bottled Glue (white, 4 oz. bottle)
- Glue sticks: small and large
- Blue/Black/Red pens
- 4-packs of dry-erase markers
- Highlighters
- Erasers- Magic Rub or equal preferred
Monetary donations are also welcomed to purchase supplies. We are often able to purchase items at bulk rates.

Collect or Donate Supplies
- Donations are accepted year-round.
- Bring donations directly to The Banquet Downtown, 900 E 8th Street, from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.
- Please call 605-335-7066 so we can assist you with unloading your items. We are unable to accept items during our distribution days, Aug. 10, 12, 14, 18, 20 & 22, 2026

How to Make Art Bags
Material preference:
- 100% Cotton Fabric for art bags
- Cut material into rectangular shape – 20” x 13”
- Place cording about 1” from the top of the 20” side.
- Fold material down over cording, making about a 1” casing, and stitch.
Fold material in half, leaving ½” open at the top of the seam (to allow for cord). - Stitch the rest of side seam and across the bottom (about ¼” seam).
- Please tie knots at each end of cord.
